About Bushveld Botanical™

Bushveld Botanicalis set within a wildlife sanctuary and biosphere region 40km north east of Pretoria. This bushveld region known as Boekenhoutskloof, is surrounded by over 300,000 hectares of private game farms and the Dinokeng Game Reserve is at its epicentre.

Bushveld Botanical primarily produces raw organic honey from its various apiaries within this reserve.

The planting of supplementary vegetation amongst abundant wildlife is an interesting challenge. After many years of trial and error, through harsh seasons, we have created an oasis where all life forms in this ecosystem can flourish in a perfect symbiotic relationship.

With its unique variety of fauna & flora, this greater region represents a natural eco environment where very little crop farming is evident. It’s a bushveld floral kingdom where each month a different plant, tree, shrub or succulent takes its turn to bloom.

From the fragrant aromas of various thorn trees, African Seringas, Wild Pear, the sourness of a Silver Cluster Leaf to the sweetness of the violet oblong blossoms of the Transvaal Ash or Boekenhout tree, it is a seasonal floral explosion. Each season brings different pollinators from butterflies, insects, moths, wasps as well as birds (of which over 350 species have been recorded over a 24 hour period).

On our wildlife sanctuary we supplement this bounty with an ongoing planting program. Each of our apiaries is set amongst different concentrations of a floral spectrum from fruit and spice orchards, to tea tree, palms, blue basil, rosemary, rose, protea and lavender gardens, all contributing to the flavourful & unique composition of our organic honey.

Conservation and our eco-friendly environment has been our primary intention in setting off on this journey and it is evident what a dramatic positive influence the bees have on their surroundings. Trees blooming and fruiting for the first time in a decade, and increased production of other plants has been fascinating to record.

Community upliftment is another important aspect of this project’s vision. The skills transfer provided to our safari staff who are becoming trained beekeepers, as they gain this vital understanding of the importance of functional and sustainable eco-system management is a skill set they can duplicate back into rural areas they originate from.

Bushveld Botanicalis a raw, unpasteurized, organic honey in the truest sense. We trust that you will enjoy this taste sensation.

With love from the apiarists!
